Sometime in February I was searching though my adoptions papers trying to find some INS documents. While searching I took the time to read my paperwork over again. This time however the words "Operation Babylift" came to my attention. I had never noticed them until that moment. I had always known I had come from Vietnam as an orphan at the end of the war. However I never knew it was with many other orphans in a government operation and that it might be possible for me to get in touch with some of them.
The next day when I went to work I got online and began doing a search for "Operation Babylift." There was not much there. After a prolonged search I found the web site of LeAnn Thieman who had written a book about her involvement. Interested, I bought the book. However my main interest was meeting other people who had come over with me from Vietnam.
Luck was on my side as I got in contact with LeAnn and she got me in touch with Sister Mary Nelle Gage. Sister Mary Nelle Gage sent me the Reunion information for Colorado as well as asked me to go back to Vietnam for the Reunion in April. Sadly I was just changing jobs and I could not do it. But I did want a way to get in contact with other's and decided to make a Web Site in hopes that other's from Operation Babylift also looking for a connection and information would find it.
I know some of you are wondering when I am going to get to the point, so here it is. We have a compelling story. A story to share. I don't just mean the trip from Vietnam, but who we are as people. I'm an orphan. I'm adopted. I was born in a time of strife. I don't know who my biological parents are. I was given to a loving family and had many opportunities as I became an American citizen.  I have had to deal with discrimination all my life. I don't have a family that can relate to what this all means for me. I'd like to someday go back to discover my root. I'm not sure what heritage actually is mine. I wonder if my biological parents are alive. I has unanswered questions and dilemmas that may never be answered.
Ours is a compelling tale. One that should be documented. So I'd like to do just that. made a documentary. Is anyone with me? Contact me if you are. Hopefully I can make it to the reunion in Colorado and discuss with further with others.
